Hypnotherapy for emotional wellbeing

The things we carry don't always have words, and they don't always respond to talking alone. Hypnotherapy meets them at the level they live on.

Grief & loss

Grief arrives with every kind of loss, a person, a relationship, a role, a pregnancy, a future you'd expected, even a version of yourself that life moved past. It rarely follows a tidy timeline, and it doesn't always wait until it's convenient.

When grief gets pushed down rather than felt, the subconscious holds onto it. It can resurface later as low mood, anxiety, irritability, sleep that won't settle, or a quiet flatness that you can't quite explain. Hypnotherapy gives grief somewhere to move, gently, and without having to relive the detail of what happened.

Many clients pair hypnotherapy with counselling for ongoing support, especially after a significant loss or miscarriage. The goal isn't to "get over" anything, it's to let the weight of it shift, so you can carry the love forward without it pulling you under.

Anger & frustration

Anger is information. It tells us something matters, something has been crossed, or something old has been touched. The trouble starts when the size of the reaction is consistently bigger than the situation seems to warrant, when a small comment lands like a personal attack, or frustration spills onto people who didn't cause it.

That gap, between the trigger and the response, is almost always where the work needs to happen. The nervous system has learned to brace, and the subconscious is running an old protective programme on autopilot.

Hypnotherapy helps settle the nervous system, soften the trigger, and rebuild a steadier internal baseline. Clients often describe the same situations happening afterwards, just not landing the same way, with more space to choose how they respond.

Emotional trauma & past experiences

Past issues are best understood as thoughts and feelings we're still holding onto from an event or experience some time ago. The subconscious has kept the emotional charge, and certain triggers can bring everything up again, even when the rational mind knows it's "in the past."

Letting go of past trauma and old emotional patterns is an area Sheryl is particularly passionate about. The work is gentle, contained, and never forced, you stay aware and in control the whole time, and you don't need to retell the story in detail for the feeling around it to shift.

"I was going through a period of grieving for an old lover, and was finding it hard to let go. With Sheryl's help I had a couple of sessions and she designed a therapy for me about letting go of the past. I felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, it was such an amazing and enlightening feeling. Now when I think of the past I can do so with little effect on me."

Relationships, family & bullying

Most of us learn how to be in relationship long before we have words for it, and the patterns we pick up early tend to play out again as adults. That can show up as the same kind of disagreement again and again, communication that's gone tense, distance from someone you love, or simply feeling unseen.

Sheryl works with couples together, or with individuals, on the patterns underneath the surface, and on family or whānau issues, separations and disagreements that are still affecting daily life.

For bullying, whether at school, at work, in a relationship or socially, the work focuses on assertiveness, confidence and being less affected by the actions of someone else, so the other person's behaviour stops setting the tone for your day.

Fertility, intimacy & sexual issues

Fertility journeys carry their own particular weight, hope, disappointment, medical appointments, and the quiet pressure of timelines. Sheryl works with couples and individuals to support the emotional side of trying to conceive, and through miscarriage and loss when it happens.

Intimacy and sexual concerns are often the parts that feel hardest to talk about, and the parts where talking alone can only go so far. Hypnotherapy can be a particularly gentle and effective route here, working with the subconscious responses that the conscious mind can't simply override.

All of this work is held with full confidentiality, always, and at a pace you set.
