Counselling
Counselling in New Plymouth& online across Aotearoa, NZ
A confidential, judgement-free space to think out loud, work things through, and learn tools to help you go forward.

What counselling looks like with me
Counselling is, at its heart, a really good conversation. One where you have the whole space, you're heard properly, and what you say doesn't have to be tidy or performed. Sometimes that's all that's needed. Sometimes it's the start of bigger work. Either way, you set the pace.
My approach is warm, person-centred and practical. I don't follow a script or fit you into a framework. I listen carefully, reflect back what I hear, and we work out together what might help.

What counselling can help with
People reach out for counselling for all sorts of reasons. Some are aware of a clear issue, where some have a sense that something just isn't right. There's no situation that is too big, or too small, to bring.
- Grief and loss — including loss that hasn't been recognised by others
- Relationship difficulties, separation, and family dynamics
- Anxiety, low mood, and feeling stuck
- Workplace stress, burnout and difficult workplace situations
- Trauma — recent or long-standing
- Life transitions: separation, illness, retirement, becoming a parent, leaving a role

Grief, loss & life transitions
Loss takes many shapes, the death of someone close, the end of a relationship, a diagnosis, a miscarriage, a role you've stepped out of, a future that didn't unfold the way you'd hoped. Some losses are recognised by the people around you, and some are quietly carried on your own.
Counselling gives that weight somewhere to land. We move at your pace, with no pressure to "get over" anything, and with plenty of room for the contradictions that grief and change tend to bring with them.

Counselling alongside hypnotherapy
Many clients combine counselling with hypnotherapy. Counselling gives the conscious mind the ability to share thoughts and reasoning — hypnotherapy allows the subconscious mind to effect change.
Hypnotherapy is often misunderstood as 'just hypnosis' — when in fact a large part of a hypnotherapy session is talking through your issues (counselling). With hypnotherapy you experience the best of both modalities — talk therapy, and therapy given whilst in hypnosis!
If you prefer to work with counselling alone, you don't need to decide upfront. We can start with what feels most comfortable and shape the work around what's actually helping.
Counselling sessions
A flexible, confidential space to talk things through, on your terms. Book a single session, or work together over time.
What to expect
Sessions run for around an hour and are warm, conversational and unhurried. There's no script, no diagnosis, and nothing you need to prepare. We'll talk about what's going on, what you'd like to be different, and how we might get there, together.
Available in clinic in New Plymouth or online across NZ, whichever fits your life best.
